MI vs DD Forecast
April 14, 2018
Smarting from back-to-back losses in their first two games of IPL 2018, Delhi Daredevils are desperate to get back to winning ways, but a tough schedule is going to make it all the more difficult for them to do so as they face Mumbai Indians on Saturday afternoon. The defending champions, on the other hand, are smarting from their stunning defeat to Chennai Super Kings on their home ground in the first game of the season, but will look to bounce back with a vengeance. Here are our IPL match predictions for the MI vs DD game:
Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Daredevils: (MI vs DD)
What was expected to be perhaps the best fast bowling combination conjured up by Mumbai Indians (Mustafizur Rahman, Mitchell McClenaghan and Jasprit Bumrah) was famously undone in the death overs by Dwayne Bravo and co. at the Wankhede Stadium, although the stadium is notorious for being not too kind to fast bowlers. After scoring a par total of 169, their bowling was mostly on top until the death overs when the three quicks were taken to the cleaners.
A change in bowling may be in the offing thanks to the nature of the Wankhede pitch and small boundaries, which may see the team management opting for the spin option of Sri Lanka’s Akila Dhananjaya come into the side in place of McClenaghan or ‘The Fizz’, although it might be too early in the tournament to make such a swap.
It’s only a matter of time when the opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis kicks into top gear, with both batsmen hungry for runs. Lewis was out without scoring against Chennai, and Delhi will look to employ spinners to prise him out early, while Rohit would like to lead from the front and bat through the MI innings. The MI middle order held the innings together admirably, and pretty much pick themselves for the upcoming fixture.
The Delhi Daredevils, on the other hand, have more headaches to deal with. They are playing all their initial games away from home and don’t want the defeats piling up before playing seven consecutive games at home towards the end of the season. A rain-hit second game meant Gambhir didn’t walk out to bat and chose to open with Glenn Maxwell in a bid for quick runs, but come Saturday, DD batsmen will slot themselves into their respective batting positions. Fellow opener Colin Munro hasn’t been particularly effective and could well be replaced by Jason Roy.
The DD bowlers haven’t found a way to arrest the scoring rate in their previous matches, and Trent Boult and co. will be aware of that. The Gambhir-Ponting leadership could bring in some changes in the bowling combination as well
IPL Match Predictions 2018: MI vs DD
On paper, the Mumbai Indians unit looks way more settled than Delhi Daredevils’ as Gambhir does not have the same bowling depth as he had while captaining Kolkata Knight Riders earlier. As MS Dhoni said on the opening night at the toss, bowling first is a no-brainer at the Wankhede but a lot will depend on howboth teams bowl on the night. The MI bowling attack, however, looks more settled with the added mystery of leg-spinner Mayank Markande. But can DD turn their fortunes around?
